Satoko Furuichi's Obituary
Satoko Furuichi was born in Alameda on May 27, 1938, to Keiichiro and Shizue Sugiyama and passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025. She is survived by her husband James Furuichi, son Derek and wife Caroline Yao, daughter Michele and husband Kevin Yost, and three grandchildren. She was raised in Alameda attending Porter School, Alameda High School and then Armstrong College. She was away from Alameda during WWII while at Topaz Relocation Center in Utah. Her career was with Otagiri Mercantile Co. until her retirement. She was an active long-time member of the Buddhist Temple of Alameda and its Women’s Association. Satoko will also be greatly missed by her surviving brother Masami Sugiyama and his wife May, sister Kiyomi Uyeda and sister-in-law Karen Sugiyama, as well as all of her cousins, nephews, nieces, and grand nephews and nieces, and great grand nephews and nieces. She enjoyed being with her family and friends at gatherings at the Temple and at Holiday times. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
