Sandra Freitas' Obituary
Sandra Freitas, 79, passed away, on March 30, 2023 in Claremont, CA.
Sandra was born in Oakland, CA on June 10, 1943 to Thomas and Josephine Allen.
Sandra was preceded in death by her husband Ray who passed in 2003.
Sandra is survived by her three sons, Ronald (Kathleen), Gary (Carrie) and Richard (Elizabeth), six grandchildren, Sophie, Isabella, Kevin, Lauren, Frankie and Thomas.
Sandra had a very large family.
She had one other sibling George Allen.
Sandra had five uncles that were a big part of her family life. Abdo Allen, Charlie Allen , George Allen, Johnny Allen and Manuel Allen.
Sandra was proceeded in death by her cousins Judy Johnstone and Manuel “shacky” Allen.
Sandra is survived by cousins Terry Allen, Mike Allen, Charles Allen , Thomas Allen, Dianne Johnsen and Bob Thompson.
Sandra graduated Oakland High School in 1960.
Sandra would often talk about working with her dad at Allen’s Mens and Boyswear, in the Diamond District when she was young.
Some of the things that Sandra enjoyed were playing bingo and taking road trips to Reno with her BFF Judy Johnstone. Terry Allen and her husband Jim would often join in on these trips. Double Double video poker was her favorite game.
While at Oakland high she met her lifetime love, Francis Raymond Freitas. After graduating in 1960 Sandra and Ray would marry on October 4, 1964 at St. Jarlath. They settled in Oakland on MacArthur Blvd where they would live together and raise three sons. Her world revolved around her family and she became a very big part of their youth sports. She loved to keep score for both baseball and basketball and would never miss a game. One thing she loved was running the snack bar at the CYO Track Meets.
Sandra was a great cook and loved to host holidays. There was never a shortage of good food at these parties. Especially her favorites like stuffed grape leaves and taboulleh.
Sandra took great pride in being born and raised in Oakland.
A special thanks to all the caregivers and Doctors that cared for her. Especially the staff at St Daniels in Claremont Ca where she lived the last year of her life.
Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday April 12 at 10:00 am at St Jarlath Catholic Church. Final blessing at St. Mary’s Cemetery Chapel.
