Russell Tyrone Pouncy Sr.'s Obituary
Russell Tyrone Pouncy Sr. was born July 24, 1953 in Oakland, California to Russell and Juanita Pouncy. He was the second of four children. During his father’s U.S. Coast Guard career, he lived in an assortment of locations; Oakland, California, where he graduated from Fremont High School,
Washington, D.C., and Palos Verdes, California where he attended Harbor Jr. College. From there he met the love of his life, Darlean Bradford.
Russell and Darlean married on October 30, 1976. During their first six years of marriage they resided in Long Beach, California where their son and daughter, Russell Tyrone Pouncy Jr. and Janayah Monique Pouncy were born. Shortly after relocating to Oklahoma, Olivia Ashley Pouncy was born.
Russell worked as a well-respected Dialysis Technician for 30 years in the medical community. He instilled in his children the importance of family togetherness, hard work, love and respect for others, and was a strong support for his family’s faith in God. In his free time, he loved to go to jazz festivals, and he adored his family-especially his grandsons. Although he always joked about being landlocked in Oklahoma, he always made an effort to return back home to the San Francisco Bay area to spend time with his family and breath the ocean air. Russell always had a warm smile for everyone and a funny story to tell. He was very important to us all and I know we are very fortunate to have been able to know and share a part of his life with him.
Russell is survived by his parents, Russell and Juanita Pouncy of Oakland, California. His loving and devoted wife Darlean, three children; Russell Jr. (wife Kenya and sons Kendal, Eric, and Joshua), Janayah (sons Jayden and Logan), and Olivia, all of Oklahoma City. Three sisters and brother-in-laws: Dolores Pouncy and Michael Hudson of Oakland, CA; Marva Denise and Tarrance Williams of Newberry, SC; Brenda and Jerrell Lewis of Oakland, CA, and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
