Rose was born in Dulag, Leyte, Philippines to Francisco Cagara Raagas and Francisca Beringuel Raagas. She has two sisters, Concepcion Raagas Tobilla (deceased) and Soledad Raagas Cordero. Rose was happily married to Mariano Telesforo Domaguing for 44 years and raised six wonderful children: Jess, James, Joseph, Jeanne, Janine, and Julie. Her grandchildren were the loves of her life: Nicholas, Jannielle, Jowel, Joshua, Jordan, Joy, Jared, Collin, Justin, Jerel, and her great-grandchildren, London, Riley, Mikayla, and Abraham.
Rose earned her teaching credential at Leyte Normal College in Tacloban, Philippines, as well as her degree in Junior Accounting and her license as a certified hair stylist here in the United States. Rose worked in the accounting office at University of California, Berkeley, for twenty-nine years, retiring in 1997.
Rose devoted much of her time to many cultural and women’s organizations. She was one of the founders of the Leyte Association of Northern California and the Concerned Filipinos of Berkeley. She served as president for several associations, including Filipino Community of Oakland, Filipino Women’s Club of the East Bay, and Filipino Catholic Federation of America. Rose achieved many awards and accolades for her outstanding service and dedication to her community, including Mother of the Year Award, Distinguished Immigrant of the Year and Leadership Award for Community and Church.
Rose was a devout Catholic and active in many parishes in the Oakland Diocese over the years, including St. Augustine, St. Elizabeth, Sacred Heart, St. Anthony, St. Columba, St. Cyril, St. Leo, St. Margaret Mary and St. Joseph the Worker. She was dedicated to sharing her Catholic faith, especially her devotion to Our Lady. She was the founder of Our Lady of Fatima Family Rosary Crusade of San Pablo, now in its 32nd year. Singing was one of Rose’s passions, singing at weddings and other special events. As choir director for the Filipino Oakland Choir, they sang for the former President of the Philippines, Corazon Aquino. One of her crowning glories was singing for Pope John Paul II.
Rose was a generous, spiritual woman who gave unconditionally to so many throughout her lifetime. She will be known as a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend and will be missed by the many lives she touched.
