Rosalind Gayle Walton's Obituary
Rosalind “Gayle” Damon Walton was born June 13, 1956 in Bryan, Texas to Whitney Joseph Damon and Faye Grace Damon. Soon after her birth, the family returned to San Francisco where she resided for 58 years.
Gayle was baptized and raised in the Catholic faith, receiving her education at St. Michael’s Elementary and Presentation High School in San Francisco, California. Throughout high school she was very popular and participated in many school activities including Junior Achievement where her love for banking began.
Upon graduation, Gayle embarked upon a 20-year banking career starting at Bank of California. It was there she sparked her interest and developed goals to make advancements in the field of banking. She moved up the corporate ladder of success at Timeshare, then at Western States Bankcard Association, where she developed her own business and was promoted to Vice President of Operations for MasterCard. Throughout her banking career, she was involved in several local and national urban banking organizations promoting black women in business. These past 6 years, Gayle (Rosalind) was employed at Our Common Ground, as a Program Assistant where she had a fulfilling career helping others.
In 1975, she met, fell in love, and married Leo Walton Jr. and to this union was born one beautiful daughter, Monique Nicole Walton. Throughout Monique’s life, Gayle had a very active role in her education, she was President of the Parent Club and School Board at St. Emydius, and she continued to be actively involved in every aspect of Monique’s career through fundraising, mentoring, attending conferences, and volunteering at various events.
Gayle was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, and mother, who always helped her family when in need. Over the past 7 years, Gayle took on the role of caregiver for her mother, until her illness prevented her from continuing.
Gayle had a passion for furthering education in the African American Community. That passion allowed her to raise thousands of dollars annually working with Festival at Sea and the United Negro College Fund.
On September 29, 2014 Gayle entered into eternal rest surrounded by family and friends at home. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted daughter Monique Nicole Walton (Stephanie); her loving mother Faye Wilson (step father Walter who preceded her in death); her father Whitney “Robichaux” Damon (Jeanette); her life long love Leo Walton Jr; stepsons Lamont and Daune Walton; sisters Carolyn Damon Bayonne (Jeffrey), Tanya Wilson, Sonya Wilson Griffin (Richard); sister friend Ramona Robinson; nephews Glen Walton Jr, Jerrell and Jaden Griffin; nieces Cymone Damon and Lailah Griffin; brother in-law Glen Walton Sr. (Vivian) and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
