Her Story
Rosa Mary Sarrell
Rosa M Sarrell was born on January 19, 1952 to Allen and Virginia Thomas. Although born in Baton Rouge Louisiana she grew up in Oakland, California. She grew up surrounded by love,laughter and strong family values that shaped the caring and compassionate woman she became. She was the eldest of five siblings, James, Lillie, Wendell, and Pamela.
At an early age, she found Christ and became a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where her faith guided her throughout her life and inspired all who knew her. After graduating from Castlemont high school she married Gregory Sarrell and together they welcomed their daughter Lisa. Their time together was filled with love and joy until Gregory’s passing.
In time she found companionship and comfort again when she met Robert Johnson. Although they never married their bond was one built on deep love and respect. From their Union they welcomed her second daughter Robyn. She and Robert shared many beautiful years together until his passing.
She devoted her life to her family, always putting her daughters first. Her strength, kindness, and nurturing spirit touched everyone around her, whether she was cooking a favorite meal or offering words of wisdom or simply sharing her warm smile, she brought light and love wherever she went.
She was a dedicated employee of the United States Postal Service in Redwood City, California where she proudly served for 35 years as a Universal Clerk. She had a strong work ethic, reliability and friendly spirit earned her the respect and admiration of her coworkers and the community she served.
Outside of work, she truly enjoyed simple joys of life. She loved to cook and was especially known for her delicious homemade desserts that everyone look forward to. She enjoyed exploring new restaurants, especially those with a good atmosphere and a bar where she could sip on her favorite drink, a Cadillac Margarita.
She also had a deep love for music, which brought her joy and comfort throughout her life. She enjoyed going to the casinos where she loved the lively atmosphere and spending time with family and friends. In her later years, she looked forward to her weekly senior citizens gatherings where she shared meals, laughter and good company. She was also a lover of movies and had remarkable patience for puzzles that could challenge even the sharpest minds.
Her legacy will live on through her children and her family. Although she is no longer with us physically her spirit lives in our memories and the love she shared. We will miss her tight hugs, and those wet kisses on the cheek. Her joyful spirit, sense of humor, and love for life left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
She was proceeded in death by her beloved parents, Allen and Virginia Thomas, her husband Gregory Sarrell and her dear companion, Robert Johnson, her brothers James and Wendell Thomas, and her sister Lillie Goldsby.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her daughters, Lisa Sarrell and Robyn Johnson, her grandson, Stephen Evans ll ,her granddaughter Rhyann Hamilton, her great grandson Stephen Evans lll, her sister, Pamela Thomas Rouse (Shahid Rouse) brother-in-law Steven Moss, and many beloved nieces and nephews families and friends, all of whom will forever cherish her memory.
