Rodney J. Rossi's Obituary
July 25, 1943 – November 30, 2024
Rod Rossi, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, at the age of 81. Born and raised in Oakland, California, Rod lived a life rich in love, adventure, and creativity.
Rod and his wife of 56 years, Mitzi Rossi, shared a lifelong love story that began when they grew up just one door apart on Greenview Drive in Oakland. Their bond remained unbreakable as they built their lives together, eventually settling in Piedmont in 1983, where they resided until Rod’s passing.
Rod is survived by his son Mark Rossi (wife Lisa) and his cherished grandchildren, Maximo, Genoa, and Santino from Laguna Beach. He is also survived by his brother Stephen (wife Anita) and sister Suzanne Rossi from Castro Valley and many loving nephews.
A creative and accomplished Restaurant Design professional who over the course of a 55 year career was instrumental in designing some of the Bay Area’s most prominent restaurants, including North Beach Restaurant, Alessia, Oliveto, and Jeanty at Jacks, leaving an indelible mark on the local dining scene.
Rod’s passions extended far beyond his professional life. He was an avid traveler who especially loved cruising the seas, savoring the experiences of new places, and sharing those adventures with his loved ones. He had an unparalleled appreciation for food, drink, film, and art, and found great joy in smoking a fine Montecristo cigar with his friends.
Rod will be remembered most for his warmth, compassion, and infectious laughter, an extraordinary ability to bring people together, brightening lives with his humor and kindness. His legacy of love and the joy he brought to those around him will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A funeral mass and celebration of Rod’s life will be held on December 6th at Corpus Christi Church in Piedmont at 10:00am. A viewing will take place on Thursday at Chapel of Chimes from 4:00-6:00. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a charity of your choice in Rod’s memory, honoring his generous spirit and love for life.
