Robert Witser's Obituary
Robert George Witser was born to Ann (Lund) and Charles Witser in Tacoma, Washington in 1930. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma. He played City League summer baseball until age 20. Bob attended Puget Sound University before graduating from Washington State University in 1952. He served two years in the U.S army, mainly stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia in 1955-56.
Bob served over six years as a deputy adult probation officer for Alameda County, supervising felony substance abuse cases. He went on to serve one year as Alameda County deputy district attorney.
Bob received his masters from University of California Berkeley, then completed his Doctorate of Law at University of California San Francisco in 1962 before being admitted to practice in the California Courts and United States Supreme Court. He engaged mainly in civil litigation work, principally construction law, in five Bay Area Counties for over 50 years.
Bob was a member of the Masonic Order (San Leandro Masonic Lodge No. 113) for over 50 years. He also served as president and treasurer of the Lake Merritt Lion’s Club and was a lifetime member of the Lake Merritt Breakfast Club.
Bob was married to Sharon Witser for 57 years before her passing in 2011. He is preceded in death by two children, daughter Lynn and son Steven, and survived by son Kenneth of Oakland, daughter-in-law Marta Jasberg of Pasadena, and six cousins in California and Washington. He lived in his home, which he built, in the Montclair neighborhood of Oakland, since 1958. At Bob’s request, there will be no funeral services.
