Mr. Robert Charles Werts' Obituary
Robert C. Werts died peacefully at home surrounded by family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Son of Charles George Werts and Dorothy Robbins Werts, he was born in his home in West Pittston, Pennsylvania. Brother to Gary Werts and Carol Werts Hess. Father to four children, Erica, Greg, Alex and Jon. Proud grandfather of Geoff, Alex, Greta, Will, Holly, Anna, Sam and Kellen. Cherished husband of his beloved wife, Patricia.
Born to humble beginnings, Bob used his fierce determination and zest for life to succeed. A sharp student and accomplished athlete, he earned an academic scholarship to University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business. After four years of success on the football field and in the classroom he graduated in 1958. He served in the Air Force Reserve and moved to New York City to start his long and accomplished career in Advertising.
Throughout his 80 years, Bob had a boundless enthusiasm for life. He loved sports and was an avid reader who devoured nonfiction and news publications. He had an insatiable desire to learn and pass on knowledge. A man of incredible character and kindness, he cared deeply about others and befriended many. He loved to write letters and pass along notes and interesting articles to his children, and later on, to his grandchildren. A bright smile and clever wit were gifts to those around him. His greatest love was for his children and his devoted wife, Pat.
Bob tackled his illness with incredible strength, dignity and determination. Those that knew him were humbled by his grace and his overwhelmingly positive attitude. His inspirational courage facing adversity will be one of many legacies left behind for his loved ones. Bob is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Erica; sons, Greg and Jon; and his brother, Gary.
At his request there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the UCSF Medical Foundation, Box 45339, San Francisco, CA 94145.
