Robert E. Selleck's Obituary
Robert Earl Selleck peacefully passed away September 9, 2011 in Oakland, CA. Born October 10, 1926 in Chagrin Falls, OH. Bob, as he was dearly called by many, was the second of two living children born to Otis Earl Selleck and Mildred Louise Herriot. Bob received his college degree from Case University. Went to work for a private sector before landing a teaching job at Case University. Moving on to California to get his Ph.D. at Berkeley, he ended up with a teaching career at CAL that spanned for over thirty years! He was advisor to many Ph.D. students many of whom are now distinguished people in their respective fields.Bob faithfully served his country during World War II having served in the U.S. Air Corps until his honorable discharge after the war ended. During his career as a professor, he did some travelling presenting his papers. His travels had taken him all over Europe. It is in one of these travels that he discovered where the last name Selleck originated. His search for his roots took him to Scotland where his ancestry came from!Robert, (Bob) is survived by his only living older sister Jean Coppinger, from Texas, and her family. He is also survived by many friends and professional colleagues. Most of all, he is survived by his longtime friend Evelyn Carter and her children Michelle and Robert Carter whom have been his family for many years, especially the last over two years!
