Robert Sekigahama's Obituary
Robert (“Bob”) passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024 at the age of 92. He was born in Union City to Sakuichi and Shinayo Sekigahama on July 23, 1932, the youngest of 7 children.
The family later moved to the Fremont area. During WWII, the family was sent to the Tanforan Detention facility then to the Topaz Relocation Center in Utah.
After the war, at the age of 14, Bob lived in Chicago for a short time with a sister and two brothers. He often spoke of his time in Chicago, and riding the Chicago “L.”
Upon his return to California, Bob attended school in El Cerrito. In 1951, he met Janet (“Sachi”), the love of his life. They were married at the Buddhist Church of Oakland in 1956.
Bob had an avid interest in cars and golf. He also took on numerous hobbies throughout the years including hi-fi equipment and photography. He enjoyed vacations to New York and Japan.
Bob is survived by Janet, his wife of 68 years, his two children and two grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Buddhist Church of Oakland, 825 Jackson St., Oakland, CA 94607 on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 2pm.
