Robert F. Schlitzkus' Obituary
Schlitzkus, Robert Frederick passed away at the age of 86, on December 23. 2001 in Castro Valley, CABob was born August 19, 1915 in Oakland, CA to Fred and Lydia Schlitzkus, the oldest of three children, brother Carl Walter Schlitzkus and sister Marie Louise Schlitzkus. Bob attended Oakland schools, and graduated form Roosevelt High School in 1930. He continued his education at the University of California at Berkeley, and graduated in 1939 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He enjoyed building models, and working on an old motorcycle. Bob felt the calling to serve his country in 1941, and joined the Army where he served as a Major in the 78th Anti Aircraft Artillery Division.On January 8, 1942 he married his college sweetheart, Catherine L. Husing, while stationed in Camp Hahn in Riverside, CA. Some of Bobs achievements include the design of a new method of high production cotton thread manufacturing for the textile industry, and a design for a 16 inch diameter table top band saw. This saw was manufactured exclusively for and by Sears Roebuck Company. Bob will be sorely missed; but his memory will stay with all who ever had the privilege of having him in their life, especially his cousins William and Annie Potter of Manteca, CA, Ralph Schlitzkus of Oregon, Lois J. Schwarze of Sacramento, close friend, Paul Nowak of Castro Valley, all his surrounding neighbors, as well as many old business friends and Army buddies.Graveside services will be held on Friday January 4, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Mt.
