Robert James Merletti's Obituary
Robert “Bob” James Merletti, age 66, of San Leandro, passed away unexpectedly on July 14, 2024.
Bob was born and raised in Oakland to Angelo and Grace Merletti. He attended St. Lawrence O’Toole Elementary School and Bishop O’Dowd High School. As a child, he was very active in the Babe Ruth league. He was especially proud and bragged that he played with Dave Stewart back in the day. Bob worked for Waste Management as a garbageman for 33 years until his retirement 15 years ago.
Bob is survived by the love of his life for 36 years, Joyce, his brother, Richard (DeeAnne), sister-in-law Linda, and his nieces Kathleen, Angela, Caitlyn, Sarah, and Anna. He is also survived by Joyce’s siblings and their families; the Paulisichs, Poons, Martinezs, and Escobars. He loved spending time with all his family!
Bob loved all sports! He especially loved the Sports Super Sunday, the A’s, Raiders, and loved when he had season tickets to the 49er games! He also loved cooking (especially smoking salmon), archery, waterskiing, horse racing, a variety of music, spending time at Buck’s Lake, Calistoga, Lockeford, and all the weekend getaways with Joyce. Bob was very passionate about his beloved Corvettes! You always knew when he arrived by the sounds of his vet. Bob belonged to the Bayovista swim club where he went faithfully to swim. He also belonged to the Ligure Club where he enjoyed many dinners with friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bill. We are confident that he is in heaven with those that have gone before him, celebrating a life well lived and loved.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 1:30pm at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland on Piedmont Avenue. Refreshments will be served from 1:00-1:30. Please join us following the service for a celebration of life at Tito’s, 15508 E 14th Street in San Leandro where we can be together to share stories and our love for Bob.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to Bob’s favorite charity, St. Labre Indian School. www.stlabre.org/granthope
