Robert Mellers, died peacefully on Wednesday, Sept 4th at the age of 91. He was born to Gertrude and Lewis Mellers on May 5, 1922 in Chicago, IL. During WWII, he served in the Army as a 1st Lieutenant stationed in New Guinea. He received a BS in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and worked for Westinghouse for 39 years. He married the late Carolyn Morgan Mellers in 1947 and moved the family to Lafayette in 1960. Robert is survived by 4 children; Susan, Barbara, James, and John. In 1986, Robert retired from Westinghouse and worked part time at EME, an engineering consulting firm. He pursued many interests, including wood work, sailing, golf, and travel. When his wife, Carolyn, became ill from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Robert was a full-time care giver. Carolyn died in 2000. Robert met Dorothy McFaul of Franklin Lakes, NJ the next year. She became his fiancée and beloved companion. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren and is survived by 7 of them: Eric, Michelle, Austin, Alana, Steve, Carolyn, and David. His granddaughter Jennifer died of ALS in 2009. He is also survived by a great grandchild, Chase. Robert was an active member of the Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Sept 15th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Wounded Warriors, P.O.
