Rita Sorenson's Obituary
Rita SorensonBorn on March 11, 1918, in Chicago, Illinois, died peacefully at 92 on December 23. Youngest of 6 children of Joseph and Margaret Mullin and raised in an Irish neighborhood in Chicago, she told stories of Prohibition Chicago based on her father's experiences on the police force and even recognized Al Capone once sitting nearby in the audience at the circus. She met Merl, her husband of over 50 years, while working for Phillip Morris Co. in Chicago. They moved to Green Bay and later to California where they raised two sons, Michael and Robert. After retirement, they moved to Arizona for the climate and golf. After Merl's death, Rita returned to her sons in California. Rita was well-liked as she was cheerful and always willing to help others. She enjoyed travel and telling many stories about her life and experiences. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her son Michael (Berkeley), his children Leif and Anna; Robert and wife Deborah (Oakland), their children Erin Brandon and Kristen; and great-grandchildren, Kate and Liam Brandon. The family expresses gratitude to Shannon Rose Home in Pinole for their loving care and Vitas Hospice for their compassionate services. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, Dec. 30, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Oakland
