Richard William Porter's Obituary
Dick Porter passed away July 18, 2022 at the age of 91 while living at Cardinal Point, Alameda.
Dick was born at Alameda Sanatorium. He was raised in Oakland and graduated from Fremont High School. Although he received a basketball scholarship to attend St. Mary's College, he instead went to work at PG&E where he worked until retirement 38 years later. He started as a mail boy and retired in upper management. While working at PG&E he took a leave of absence to serve in the Korean War and was stationed in Canada. He loved to read, play golf and watch sports on TV, especially the Golden State Warriors. He resided in Alameda for the past 52 years.
Dick and his late wife Bev loved their travels to Maui, their eight cruises to the Panama Canal, Europe, Mexico and Alaska and their many trips to their cabin at Rubicon Bay Lake Tahoe. He also enjoyed eating with his circle of friends (Marge, Marilyn, Mary, Jack and Terry) at the Elks and all of his friends and staff at Cardinal Point.
He is survived by his loving daughter Cindy Grady (Walt), their children Tom Grady (Nicole) and Cathleen Massey and four great grandchildren Austin and Addi Grady and Camryn and Clayton Massey; his loving daughter Stacy Bales (Chuck), their four children Tara, Trevor, Mary and Randy and five great grandchildren Allysandra, Isabella, Liam, Emily and Kenley.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Beverly Gay Porter, his parents Mildred and William Porter, and his sister Donna Crew.
At Dick's request, there will be no services. He will be inurned at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland.
