Regina Kay Hammons Johnson's Obituary
Regina (Gina) Kay Hammons Johnson, age 61, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2020 at Doctor’s Hospital of Manteca, CA.
Gina was born April 24, 1959, in Prichard, AL, to Peyton and Betty Hammons and the youngest of 3 children. She spent her childhood playing with many cousins, going to the beach and attending Prichard United Methodist Church. After many years, they moved to Mobile, AL where Gina graduated from John S. Shaw High School in 1977, found life-long friends and raised her son, Adam. Gina received a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of South Alabama and spent her career working in labor and delivery, a speciality she loved and excelled. Her co-workers loved working with her.
After working at U.S.A. Children & Women’s Hospital & North Baldwin Infirmary, Gina was a traveling nurse throughout California but her favorite place was always the beach at Gulf Shores, AL, where she lived for a number of years and attended the Gulf Shores United Methodist Church. Gina’s last adventure was working in California where she could be close to those she loved most, her son, Adam, his wife, Reijun, and their many pets.
Gina was always fun to be around, had a great sense of humor and loved exploring for hidden treasures, making crafts, refinishing furniture and gardening fruits, vegetables and flowers. She was the best storyteller, funny, spontaneous and not afraid to be silly. She had a heart of gold for helping others and would give the shirt off her back to someone in need. She also had great love and kindness for animals and saved a rescue dog from a kill shelter with her daughter in-law. She loved all her “grand fur babies” very much and would often talk to them on video chat when she was away.
Gina is survived by her son, Adam Hammons and his wife Reijun of Alameda, CA, her brother, Robert (Bob) Hammons & wife Ursula (Uschi) of Gurley, AL, and her sister Katherine (Kathe) Thompson & husband William (Bill) of Orange Beach, AL. She was also loved greatly by her nieces and nephews, Bianca & Michael Measels, Jay & Leslie Hammons, Jesse Hammons, Sterling Thompson and Alanna & Austin Greene.
