Ramona C. Alejo's Obituary
Ramona Carolina Alejo, lovingly known as “Mona”, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, in her hometown of Oakland, California, at the age of 82. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Mona leaves behind a rich legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith.
Born on August 1, 1942, to Joseph and Antoinette Becerra in Oakland, California, Mona was raised in the Catholic faith and baptized at an early age. She grew up with quiet strength and a heart full of compassion. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1960. Her soft-spoken nature and beautiful, infectious smile made everyone feel welcome and loved.
Mona worked for many years at the Del monte cannery, where her dedication and hard work were deeply respected. In addition to her work at the cannery, she enjoyed working at Long’s Drugs Store, where her warm personality naturally drew people in.
Family was everything to Mona. She was a deeply cherished and proud mother, grandmother, and matriarch. Her legacy lives on through her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, who will carry her love forward for generations to come.
Mona found joy in life’s simple pleasures – crocheting beautiful pieces by hand, solving word search puzzles, watching old Westerns, shopping, listening to music, and dancing. She especially loved spending time with her loved ones, and some of her most treasured memories were dancing with her father. Her joyful spirit lit up every room she entered.
Above all, Mona was known for her generous heart. She gave freely of her time, energy and love to help others. Whether it was a warm hug, a thoughtful gesture, or a comforting word, she had a way of making everyone feel special.
Ramona Carolina Alejo was truly the heart of her family – a shining example of grace, love, and quiet strength. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Mona is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Antoinette Becerra; her brothers, Anthony and Paul Becerra; her son, Guadalupe Alejo; and her grandson, Charles Milton Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her brother Joseph Becerra; her sisters Mariana Pangelina and Frances Corona; her children, John Alejo Sr., Mercedes Alejo-Vinson, Christina Little, and Gilbert Alejo; her grandchildren, John Jr. (Rachel), Emilio (Ofa), Katarina, Jonathan Alejo, Juan Milton Sr., Anthony Milton, La’ Porsha Holmes, Khalid Wheatfall Jr., Michael Mario, Lauren Little, Rhianna Alejo, and Alicia Childress; along with many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and dear friends.
Forever Nana. Forever Remembered. Forever Loved.
