Prabhakaran Sankara Nair's Obituary
Prabhakaran Nair was born on May 5, 1935 in Kollam, Kerala in South India to Sankara Pillai and Thankamma Amma. He was married to Girija (Lala) Nair in 1972 and they have three children, Abhi and daughter-in-law Nelli, Suni and Raven, and Meena, and two beautiful granddaughters, Na Auni and Nuneh. He grew up as the oldest of the four sons in their Mundakkal home, and took care of the family as a big brother in any way he could. His aspirations to become a young lawyer and movie producer came to fruition for some time, but he felt a calling to start anew in the U.S. Prabha left India and came to the U.S. in 1970. He started as a business partner and handled several business ventures before settling down as a State employee. Prabha retired from the State of California in 2000 as an Associate Insurance Investigator with the Department of Insurance, after twenty-five years of exemplary service. He also was instrumental in the initial formation of the Malayalee Association of Northern California (MANCA) and he tried to be a supportive member of the Malayalee community thereafter. Upon retirement, he continued to seek out family and social gatherings, even while his health was deteriorating. Prabha always made it a point to do so, without ever allowing his health to bring down the good spirits of his loved ones. Prabha passed away on July 16, 2010 in Oakland, California. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers Rajan Nair, Dr. Mohan Kumar and Pradeep Kumar, their spouses Kamal, Indira and Anitha and their children, Mother-in-Law Sarojini Sukumara Pillai, Brother-in-law Ashok Pillai and his wife Shaji, Sister-in-law Devika and her husband Dr. Aravind Pillai and their children, several cousin brothers and sisters and all their families. Prabha enjoyed good company and had a great sense of humor that his family and friends will always remember. He was a kind man and will be missed dearly.
