Ping B. Lee's Obituary
Ping Lee, 91 and beloved father, passed away in Oakland on January 19, 2015, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Taishan, China and came to San Francisco when he was sixteen years old to join his brother Lester, uncle, and cousins. With a very limited education, he worked hard to rise to become executive chef at Trader Vic’s, working at several of its franchises during its heyday.
He was clever and creative and figured out on his own how to do anything that was worth doing. Ever practical in all things, including his hobbies, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking, and eating. He was generous with his treasures and his talents and he will be dearly missed.
There will be a memorial service for him at the Chapel of the Chimes on February 28th, 2015 at 10 AM, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA. A luncheon will follow at the Hong Kong East Ocean Seafood Restaurant at 12 PM, 3199 Powell Street, Emeryville, CA.
