I just learned that my friend and former roommate had passed away. It has been years since I have seen him but he will always be in our hearts. He introduced me to my wife of forty-eight years and I will always be grateful. God bless all who was touched by him. My love and condolence goes out to his family….Lenard and Jean Rhodes.
I just love reading the memories. I spent many hours at track meets and practices (and BBQ's at Knollwood) with my Dad and his athletes. Many of them practically helped raise me when I was a little girl. He never missed a school event, came to my classrooms to guest teach, taught me about good music, how to cook a mean pepper steak and so much more. My father was an incredible, funny, intense, original, driven, adventurous man and Father that tried to make sure I was well educated and ready for the world. I miss him dearly and remain thankful daily that I got to have him as my Daddy and that so many of you were touched by and love him too. Peace.Cyndi Clifton
I remember Mr. Clifton being all over that campus (CCC). He always had a smile and a hello at all times. Just thinking about him from so many years ago, still brings a smile to my face. He is the only man I've seen that could wear a T-shirt, sports pants, and tennis shoes and make it look formal. Hopefully, we have made a lasting impression on someone that when they recall a memory of us it brings a smile to their face.
I have fond memories of my time at CCC and after with Phil And all the people I have met through him and Steve and their families. A few years ago Phil and I went to the JC State meet at San Mateo JC where he saw one of his former athletes. She was there to watch her son compete, whom I had coached while in high school and while at Modesto JC. I was able to meet his mom for the first time and found out that she had run for Phil sometime after I left CCC. When her son came up to where we were sitting I introduced him to Phil and let him know that his mom and I both had run for Phil at different times and he was my source of hurdle knowledge. Between us was 4 generations of hurdlers. This was exiting for me and for Phil. We then went to the High School State Meet the next month and Joyce came with us. They met us in Sacramento at the train station and Phil and Joyce were able to meet my son who was just graduating from High school and Phil had brought along pictures of me winning the State Meet in the hurdles for my son to see. Again, we had another great day of Track and Field with Phil and Joyce that I will never forget.
Coach Clifton will be truly missed. I will continue to keep his memory alive, by sharing the things he taught me to others in Track and Field.

Phil was one of my track coaches at CCC, he was the kind of person that will laugh with you and have some jokes, but he meant business when it came to track meets. He and Steve Greer was two peas in a pot. My prayers go out to the family God Bless You All. Cynthia Jones-Batchan
