Phillip Tuk Pon æ½Ë? Ã¥¾· Ã¥®'Passed away May 12, 2010Resident of Oakland and San JoseBeloved brother of Marie, Michael, and Joan. He leaves three nieces Nanetta, Amanda, Jacqueline, and a nephew Brandon, to join his parents Shee Chung Pon and Hop Yee Pon.Phillip was born in Canton, China. He immigrated to USA as a teenager. He attended Oakland Technical High School and excelled, even though his English was poor at the start. He graduated from University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering (ME). He went onto San Diego State University to complete a Masters in ME.He worked at New Island Market and Lucky Stores to help support the family and to fund his college education. After completing his degrees, he began his professional career with General Electric (GE) in their Nuclear Energy Division. After leaving GE, he continued as a consultant to the industry. He resided in San Jose during his professional years and retired at Oakland.He enjoyed Chinese literature and history, investment and wealth-building, and technology - Often, having lengthy conversations on such matters over chess or coffee.Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Thurs., May 27, 2010, at 11 AM, at Chapel of the Chimes, at 4499 Piedmont Ave., Oakland, CA.
