PETER CHENG's Obituary
Peter Sang Cheng
January 22, 1921 ' February 25, 2013
Peter Sang Cheng entered to rest peacefully after a short illness. He had just celebrated his 92nd 'Going on' 93rd birthday along with the Chinese New Year (Year of the Snake) celebration. He is survived by his wife Rosemarie, sons Norm and Jeff, daughter-in-law Anna Huie, and grandchildren Aaron and Brianna. He was preceded by the passing of his sister, Ida in 1965 and his brother, Raymond in 2005.
Peter was born in San Francisco, California, and went to Commerce High and City College for his AA. He was drafted by the Army during World War II and was stationed in various units in the Southwest. He transferred to the Civilian Conservation Corps to enhance his skills. His profession was a draftsman/designer for the Becthel Corporation where he eventually retired.
In 1950, he met his future bride, Rosemarie at the Chinatown YMCA through folk dance classes. They married on September 11, 1955 and honeymooned at Disneyland. They began raising their family in San Francisco and then settled in Alameda in 1969.
One of his interests was to explore new locations during his vacations from work. He took his family to the Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Sequoia National Parks, and to Hawaii. He loved to drive to different sites in California with his trusty AAA maps. Upon his retirement years, he and Rosemarie went to visit China, British Columbia, Disney's EPCOT, Branson, Mo., the Bahamas, Amsterdam, Italy, France and Great Britain. Another part of his life was that he loved casino gaming (slots, keno and blackjack).
Our father led a life that was full of challenges of which he overcame for himself and his family. Peter/Pop/Dad will be truly missed by all those he knew and loved.
