Helen Pan
My dearest mom was a beautiful, honest, brave, and loving angel.
She devoted her life to the family. My childhood memory was full of her tender love and warm arms. At that time dad was not at home. She worked day and night to make sure that we had food on the table. She also made sure that no bad kids bullied us, which took place often. When that did happen, she stood up for us and went to talk to the bully's parents or reported them to the teachers at school.
I heard her singing when she felt sad and lonely. Without help from dad, mom had to care for her children all by herself, plus care for dad too. When we had school breaks, she brought us - her four children- to visit dad in another county because she wanted us to know we had a dad. A journey like that was never easy. We could not always get a ride by train or bus. Often we had to walk for half-day on foot or stay overnight somewhere on the way. All of us had to carry something. My two brothers were responsible for heavier items such as ham, chicken, and eggs. The road was long but we did not feel too bad because we could meet up with our cousins, my aunt, and her husband on the way, which was the joy of those times. Mother's younger sister, my aunt, has the same personality as my mother. Two of them made us feel happy and warm.
Mom had only one small income, and she managed to feed five months, plus my dad. She encouraged us to do well in schools and become good and useful people. There were so many examples of her teachings during those challenging times. She had done her best to protect us and raise us.
I am feeling the deepest loss of her, who is my best friend and our mother. Watching over us from heaven above, mom will always be with us. Mom will live in our hearts forever. We will never be separated.
