Paul Hardy's Obituary
Paul Hardy1945 – 2012 Paul Hardy, 66, of Oakland, died on June 30, 2012, several days after a tragic bicycling accident in the Oakland Hills. He passed away surrounded by family and his closest friends. Paul was born 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Susan. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Helen Hardy. He is survived by siblings Frank (Victoria) of Missouri, and Patricia (Thaddeus) of Ohio; aunt Ruth of Indiana; mother-in-law Fran of Alameda, CA; nephews and nieces Kyle (Virginia) , Ross (Colleen) of Missouri, Amy and Erin (Craig) of New Jersey and Michael (Sarah) of Ohio; and brother-in-law Thomas (Patricia) of New Jersey. In addition to family members, he leaves behind many dear friends. He received his engineering degree from Youngstown State University in the 1970s. He was a professional engineer in Civil Engineering and was licensed by the states of California and Florida. Throughout his career he held several engineering positions with local contractors, various municipal and county governments, and consulting firms, at one of which he was a partner. Paul lived an active life and loved participating in athletic activities. He was an avid bicyclist, ocean diver, kayaker, weight lifter and distance runner. Special thanks go to the nurses, doctors and other staff in the Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit at Highland Hospital for the compassionate care given to him, his family and friends. Cremation was handled by Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland. A private memorial celebrating his life is scheduled for family and friends. Donations in his memory can be made to the Alameda County Food Bank, the Oakland Salvation Army or to a charity of your choice.
