Patricia "Trish" Beall 's Obituary
Patricia (Trish) Hickox Beall died at her home in Berkeley, CA on the morning of Wednesday, December 11th, 2019.
Born in 1948 in New York City, Trish grew up in Cleveland, OH with her two sisters, Martha and Alice, a gaggle of Hickox cousins and close, lasting friends.
After graduating from Laurel School in Cleveland, OH, Trish moved to Oakland, CA to attend Mills College from which she graduated in 1970 with a BA in American Studies. A professional writer, researcher and editor, Trish worked for various alternative and non-profit organizations in both Los Angeles and the Bay Area. After graduation, she worked for the Freedom News and East Bay Bridge. In Los Angeles she served as advertising director and freelance writer for LA Lawyer Magazine and as editor for the Economic Democrat, the publication for Tom Hayden’s Center for Economic Democracy in Santa Monica, CA. She also worked as a researcher on the biographies of Ronald Reagan and Averell Harriman. Upon her return to Berkeley in 1989, Trish worked as the editor of California Medical Association’s publication California Physician and continued to work as a freelance editor until her death.
Trish’s interests were eclectic, from a love of baseball and horse racing to a passion for politics, and literature. Her tastes were always discerning, valuing quality in preparing food, reading lit-erature, listening to music or pursuing friendship; the activities she revered throughout her life, particularly in later years.
Trish is survived by her niece, Isis Hockenos and brother-in-law, Rob Hockenos, of Marshall, CA. Her cousins, Charles Hickox of Fairfax, CA, Patrick Hickox of Boston, MA, Fayette Hickox of Weston, CT, Deborah Hickox of New York City, NY, Annie Hickox of England and their fami-lies as well as many Wick, Foster and Calhoun cousins. Trish will be missed by a large commu-nity of friends whom she regarded as family and by her cats (The Beasties), Scooter and Mar-bles.
She is predeceased by parents Patricia Calhoun Beall (Hickox) of Cleveland, OH and Neil Pres-ton Beall of Branford, CT and by sisters Martha Barend of Waldoboro, ME and Alice Hibbs Beall of Marshall, CA.
