Otis Dean Ward's Obituary
Otis Dean Ward, age 82, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2015. He was born on March 5, 1933 in Tyler, Texas, and moved to the Bay Area as a child. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and Christine Ward along with siblings Lily Rhodes and Herbert Ward. Otis is remembered for his story telling, long conversations ranging from politics to sports, supporting his favorite teams (SF Giants, SF 49ers, and USC Trojans), and his love of movies and books. Otis was also well known for his loyalty, hard work and commitment to his career in management with the US Postal Service for 38 years, and more importantly his dedication to and support of his family. Otis was a hard worker, always kept himself busy and had been retired for 25 years.
Otis leaves behind his loving family consisting of his wife, Theresa, his sons, Otis Ward Jr and Gary Gascie, his daughters, Sharon Ward, Patricia Ward and Tracy Ward Allen. He was a proud grandpa to nine grandchildren: Otis D. Ward III, Dante Ward, Otis D. Ward IV, Trenton Ward, Milan Ward, Dashana and Marcelis Gascie, Amelia and Mason Allen, and Latasha King. In addition, Otis is survived by 20 great grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Otis’s life, beginning with a viewing on Tuesday, November 10th from 6-8pm at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 4419 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland. Funeral services will also be held at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary on Wednesday, November 11th starting at 11am.
All are welcome to join the family at the mortuary after the November 11th funeral services for a reception to celebrate the life of Otis Dean Ward, beginning at 12pm.
