Odessa Bolton Grace's Obituary
Odessa Bolton Grace died peacefully in her sleep at home, August 1, 2015 in Oakland, California. The only child born to Johnny and Eula Bolton, in Louisiana on December 31, 1912. A longtime resident of Oakland, family and freinds were very important to her. She knew no strangers; always telling everyone she met to call her either “Mother” or “Granny”. She referred to herself as “Dessa”
For Many years, “Dessa” enjoyed fishing, cooking, sewing, having a good time with family and friends and more importantly attending church. A faithful Christian, she attended church every Sunday until two months before her death. A domestic worker for over 40 years, she took great pride in the work and care she provided for many of the families she worked for in the Bay area. Several of those families kept in touch with her long after she retired.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband and her only child, George Lee Jacobs, Jr. She is survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She will be truly missed by many family members and friends, including her church family at Harmony Baptist Church, and friends and staff at Sister Thea Bowman Manor.
