Obituary for Nini Adriano Cruz McQueen
Nini Adriano Cruz McQueen, age 73, of Oakland, California, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026. Born on February 13, 1952, in Malolos, Bulacan, Philippines, Nini lived a life marked by devotion—to her family, her students, her community, and the people she cared for throughout her long career.
Nini was the daughter of the late Adriano family of Malolos and a proud graduate of Regina Carmeli College, where she earned her Bachelor in Elementary Education. Her love for teaching and her natural gift for nurturing young minds led her to a 15‑year career with the Department of Education (DepEd) Philippines, where she shaped the lives of countless elementary students.
In April 1994, Nini married Otto Joseph Washington McQueen, the love of her life. Together, they built a life rooted in compassion, service, and family.
After moving to the United States, Nini continued her calling as an educator and caregiver. She worked as an after‑class teacher at St. Jarlath School and later as an Activities Assistant at Excell Health Care Center, where she was both an employee and a beloved member of the community. Her colleagues and residents remember her for her warmth, patience, and unwavering dedication. Caregiving was not just her profession—it was her passion.
Nini is survived by her children, Ma. Victoria Pascual Santos, 54, and Christopher Michael McQueen, 28; her cherished granddaughter, Naleiya McQueen, 1; her brother Benjamin Cruz Adriano; and her sisters Norma Adriano Carandang and Rowena Adriano Cruz, all of whom reside in the Philippines. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and a life lived in service to others.
Nini will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her love of teaching, and her deep devotion to her family. Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.
