Nellie Busby
Nellie Marie Busby was born April 18, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana, she passed on November 6, 2025, in Sacramento, California.
She was born to Dominick Gutierrez and Eva Tircuit Gutierrez. She has two siblings, Dominick Gutierrez Jr. and Estrellita “Leda” Gutierrez Krajack. Nellie relocated to Oakland, California as a teenager where she attended Fremont High School, graduating in June 1964.
Upon Graduating from High School Nellie met William Cornn and were married. Through this marriage Nellie had two children, James (1966) and Robert (1967). Although the marriage did not last, she worked many Jobs to support her sons and herself. Her boys, as she referred to them, were her world.
Nellie grew up in the Roman Catholic faith and attended Mass regularly. In her late 30’s her best friend invited her to church at Acts Full Gospel Church in Oakland, where she joined under the leadership of Pastor Robert ‘Bob’ Jackson later elevated to Bishop. Nellie was a member for 33 years. In 2023 she began attending Glory Worship Center under the leadership of Pastor Andre Benson where she remained until her passing.
In 1977 Nellie met the love of her life, Richard Busby. She had a running joke: “she prayed for a man that was rich and God gave her a man named Rich”. They loved to travel and spend time together. Nellie would not forget about her boys and dragged them with her. In 1997 Richard passed away and Nellie life changed.
After Nellie’s husband passed her focus was her Grandchildren, James, Jasmine, Alexis, Robert, Cameron, Jeremiah, and Christopher. She would attend sports, theatre and any school event in support and love of them. Not to mention help take care of them.
As the Grandchildren became adults and have their own children Nellie was full of joy and love for her great grandchildren. Her love poured out on Amaya Hicks, Jordyn Cornn, Jayde Cornn, Tristan Avelino, and Michael Riley.
Nellie lived a loving life for her family and friends. Nellie enjoyed gardening, sewing and hanging out with family and friends. Nellie would work in her yard for hours then shift gears and sew in the evening. She loved to help people. She was a gift to all that interact with her.
