Dr. Neal Elliott Fong's Obituary
Neal Elliott Fong was born on the eve of Thanksgiving Day in 1955. He was a blessing to his loving parents, Joshua and Lena Fong. A naturally curious child, Neal was encouraged to try many things and learn by doing. Along with his sister, Jill, he was cast in the Oakland Light Opera production of The King and I. He also took to the stage after learning to play the piano, flute, and saxophone as well. These experiences led Neal to a lifelong love of the performing arts.
The Fong family moved from Oakland to San Leandro when Neal was in middle school. Neal attended the Neighborhood Church, in Castro Valley, where he received Jesus as his personal savior. During this time, he grew in his faith and love for God, and continued his personal walk with the Lord for the rest of his life.
As the recipient of the University of California Regents Scholarship, Neal studied at UC Davis and then UCLA for dental school. Afterwards, Neal practiced dentistry in Alameda for over 30 years. He cared for his parents with gentleness and earned their trust.
Neal met Pauline in 1982 and married on June 23, 1984. They were blessed with three sons, Andrew, Joel, and Eric. Chinese Independent Baptist Church in Oakland became their home church where Neal served in many ministries,
In 2007, Neal joined the Castro Valley Education Foundation and helped raise scholarships for college-bond high school students. Every February, he organized local dentists to do free dental screenings for all fourth graders in the school district. Neal received great joy in being able to contribute to the community.
Neal and Pauline have just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary and felt so blessed by the wonderful extended family and friends that they share.
For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee.
Isaiah 54:10
