NADINE ELEASE FRANKLINMarch 20, 1924 – September 5, 2011Beloved wife to Alexander Franklin and loving mother to Linda L. Franklin.Mom was born in Marshall, Texas to Ocie and Annie Mae Nickerson, attendedPhyllis Wheatley Elementary School and graduated from Pemberton High Schoolas salutatorian of the class in 1941. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degreein English and a teaching credential from Bishop College in 1944, graduatingwith honors. Mom briefly attended UC Berkeley when her parents came toCalifornia to work in the shipyards. At UC she worked toward a masters degreein English, with the goal of teaching high school English. In order tohelp her parents with expenses, she discontinued the masters program and foundwork in the administrative field, first as a legal secretary and then as atax accountant’s assistant. She married Alexander Franklin on July 3, 1949and gave birth to her daughter Linda in 1950. She devoted her life to herfamily. She sometimes tutored young people and was dedicated to herneighborhood and friends whom she considered as family. She is survived by herdaughter, Linda and now lives in God’s etermal light and in our hearts.Visitation will be held at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA 94611 on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel of the Chimes.
