Mother Ethel Harriet Graham
Ethel Harriet Graham was born in Central (Silver City) New Mexico to Maurice and Ethel Hubbard on October 17, 1921. Ethel was one of seven siblings whom have all preceded her in death. (Vera, Mamie, Marcella, William, Lanora & Benjamin).
While growing up in New Mexico Ethel and her siblings went to school and played with the children in their neighborhood which allowed them to become fluent in Spanish.
During her school days Ethel played Basketball and ran track and according to her she was very good.
In her early twenties Ethel met and married William Edward Graham. They lived and worked in Oakland California and raised six children and two nieces. Three of which have preceded her in death. (William, Clifford and Bennita).
Ethel’s husband William whom she was married to for over 57 years also preceded her in death in December 2002.
During her lifetime she worked for the Consolidated War Plant, the Del Monte Cannery, the U.S. Post Office and the Ninety Six school district in S.C.
Ethel joined Calvary Temple C.O.G.I.C in 1955 and was one of the original members of the church when Bishop L.B. Johnson first started his church. when she moved to S.C. she became a member of Mays (Trinity) U.M.C, and later a member of Prayer & Faith Ministries (Warren Temple) C.O.G.I.C. Where she served as Church Mother and operated in many church auxiliaries. When her health began to decline she moved in with her dear niece Patricia Williams, Pat took care of her until she moved back to California. When she returned to California she rejoined Calvary Temple and regained her close friendship with a close family friend, Sister Uraner Booth. During her last years at Calvary Temple she was active in Sunday school, Sunday service and Tuesday noon day prayer. During Mother Grahams life she touched the hearts of many people. Everyone that met and knew her immediately fell in love with her. Some of the many names she was called by family and friends were; Auntie, Grandma, MaMa G., and the list goes on. we are really going to miss her stories and all her singing. She will be greatly missed by the staff and residents of Blossom Gardens Senior Home.
She leaves to cherish her memory four children and one Niece reared in the home; Gardner (Mary), Sylvia (Michael), Gwendolyn, Delfina and Lynette.
Sixteen Grandchildren, Twenty Great Grandchildren and Six Great Great Grandchildren, And a host of Nieces and nephews also reaching into the fifth generation.
