Miroslav Klivansky's Obituary
A much-loved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Miroslav Klivansky, 53, of Oakland, California, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 21, 2025. He fought a fierce and brave battle with cancer. Miroslav, also known as Slava or Steve, was born in Kyiv in 1971. As a young boy who only spoke Russian, he moved to the USA with his parents, brother, and grandparents in the late 70s where he settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He quickly mastered the English language, excelled in school, and began college at the tender age of 16 starting his studies at Drexel University. He completed his undergrad in Computer Science at the University of Pennsylvania and later pursued his PhD at Georgia Tech.
Miroslav was a true computer nerd with a deep love of learning, teaching, and reading. He enjoyed unraveling complex situations at work, and this is reflected in his nearly three-decades-long career spanning many areas, including data storage, analytics, system architecture, technical marketing, technical education, AI, and machine learning. A geek to the core, he loved innovation and technology. At the time of his passing, he was the Global Practice Lead for AI and Analytics at a leading Bay Area company.
He was an exceptional thinker with a never-ending curiosity. Some people would even describe him as cerebral. He was always eager to engage in stimulating conversations. He will also be remembered for his warmth and welcoming smile. Above all, his greatest love was his family. He loved traveling and exploring new places with his family. Slava was a loving husband, a proud father, a caring son, a cherished brother, and a steadfast friend to many. He leaves behind his devoted wife Liana, and their cherished daughter Isabel. He is also survived by his parents Mark and Anna, brother Gene and his wife Sarah, and nephew Sean. His legacy will continue in the lives of those he touched, the family he adored, and the world he helped shape.
Slava’s spirited nature and genuine warmth made him loved by many. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service to honor Slava's life will be held at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA at the Julia Morgan chapel on April 6, 2025 at 10 AM Pacific time. Family, friends, and all those whose lives Miroslav touched are invited to join in celebrating his life and the legacy he leaves behind. A live video link will be available to those who are unable to attend in person.
