Miriam Salaam Marsh's Obituary
Miriam Salaam Marsh was born, "Marva Denise McDowell" to the late Beulah & Sam Johnson McDowell in Columbus Hospital in Lowndes County, Columbus, MS, on March 14th, 1961. She accepted Jesus at an early age and was baptized at the Fairlawn Tenth Street M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor James Granderson.
With an exceptional mind, throughout her learning experience, she not only learned to play piano on her own, as her mother did, she was a member of the Caldwell High School Marching Band, playing the Tenor Saxophone. Later graduating with honors and being chosen as Salutatorian of the graduating class of Caldwell High School in 1979. Then graduating with honors from the Miss. State University in Starkville, MS, with full scholarship and choosing Berkeley, CA over LSU. She then opened her own school in California.
Among those whom she knew who preceded her in death, are her grandparents, Prince Albert & Susie Jones Johnson, her parents, Sam & Beulah Johnson McDowell, and her nephew Codi Vinshay Sanders McDowell.
She leaves to celebrate her memory along with her children Rad, Noa, Eli, Pilar & her granddaughter Willow. Her siblings are Vernon Humphries, Sherrie LaRosa Humphries Smith, Vincent McDowell, Penesha Kay McDowell, & Sam Mcdowell, Jr.(Kimberly), all of Columbus, MS, her only surviving Aunt Sherrie Johnson Justice, of Great Neck, NY, nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, a host of cousins, and the entire Columbus Southside Community Family!!!
