Mimi Ree Luis' Obituary
Mimi Ree Luis was born in 1964, the year of the Wood Dragon, on April 10 to Bing and Josephine Luis. She had an older sister, Angela, and later a younger brother, Reuben. Mimi grew up in Oakland and graduated from Oakland High School in 1982. From there she continued her education at UC Berkeley, majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Mimi was also a member of Eta Kappa Nu, an engineering honors society. During summers, Mimi worked at Lockheed in 1985 and at FMC in 1986. Mimi graduated in December 1986 and then started her employment with Altera Corporation where she stayed for 20+ years working as a software engineer.
In middle school, Mimi became a Christian, and attended Bay Area Chinese Bible Church (BACBC) and continued to serve in several ministries as her faith grew. She served as Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and Deaconess.
Mimi had a passion for everything Disney and took the opportunity to go to Disneyland as often as possible. She was also an avid Oakland A’s and the Golden State Warriors fan and a collector of A’s and Warrior player bobbleheads. She also liked to travel to domestic vacation locales such as Grand Canyon and Alaska, and abroad to Vancouver and Switzerland.
Mimi was a sensitive, loving, and generous person. Everywhere she went, she made and kept close friends. And later when her nephew, Alexander, and niece, Cassandra, were born, she doted on them. They called her Auntie Mimi. And she was also known as Auntie Mimi for all her friends’ kids too.
Mimi passed peacefully on February 10 of this year at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto. Mimi is survived by her father Bing, her mother Josephine, her sister Angela, her brother Reuben, and her nephew and niece, Alexander and Cassandra. We all miss Mimi dearly.
