Mildred Lew Kong's Obituary
Mildred Lew Kong was born in Oakland, California on January 23, 1920 to Lew Tye and Louie Yen. She was the sixth of seven children, Essie, Wing, Wah, John, Stella and Ruth. Mildred attended Oakland public schools and completed her education at Heald’s Business College. She maintained a career in the Federal Government, where she as an invaluable and well respected employee in administration.
In 1946, Mildred married Barry Kong. They enjoyed a loving and fruitful 54 year marriage and raised four children, Bonnie, Gregory, Clorinda and Montgomery. After retirement, Mildred volunteered at Providence Hospital in Oakland for 25 years. Her fluency in Cantonese enabled her to provide translation for and comfort to many Chinese patients.
Mildred will be missed by her loving family, including her six grandchildren, Matthew, Jeremy, Jordan, Nathaniel, Cameron and Haley.
