Michael John Wright's Obituary
Michael John Wright
Feb. 27, 1956 - April 2, 2025
Michael John Wright, 69, passed away April 2, 2025.
Born in Berkeley and raised in Richmond, Michael built a life rooted in community, curiosity, and connection. He was a dedicated numismatist and real estate investor, but more than that, he was a storyteller, a sharp thinker, and a pillar in the Alameda community. For over 45 years, he ran his local coin shop—a space that became more than just a business. It was a place where friends and strangers alike would come to talk coins, history, economics, and politics, and leave feeling heard, challenged, or simply seen.
In his final moments, Michael repeated the words, “What a life, what a life”—a fitting reflection from a man who lived on his own terms and made an impact through thoughtful conversation, quiet generosity, and unwavering passion.
He is survived by his former wife and business partner, Linda Wright; his children, Michael Wright II (Ashley), Audra Blair (Zach); and his beloved granddaughter, Georgia Mei Blair. He is also survived by his younger brothers, Tim and Patrick Wright. His older brother Rick Wright preceded him in passing.
One of Michael’s favored causes was the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization he supported out of deep respect for those who served and sacrificed. Those wishing to honor his memory are encouraged to consider a donation in his name.
In accordance with his wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. His family honors his request and invites those who knew him to remember him in their own way—perhaps with a conversation about the past, a coin in your pocket, or a moment of reflection on a life fully lived.
