Michael Alan Robbins' Obituary
Michael Alan Robbins Nov. 12, 1956~Nov. 12, 2013 Former Hayward Resident Born to Louis Miles and Sharon Ann Robbins (nee Johnson) of Oakland CA. Survived by Gary D. Robbins (brother) and wife Vicki of Indiana PA, and Heidi Robbins Brown (sister) of DuPont WA., his children Nicholas John Robbins and Sierra Isabel Robbins, six nephews and nieces Marissa Ann RobbinsAdams (Puyallup, WA), Rachel Miranda Robbins (Oakland CA), Adam Robbins (Brentwood, CA), Brenna Lindsay Brown, Connor Patrick Johnson Brown and, Aiden Christopher Brown all of DuPont WA; and ne surviving aunt, Patricia Leyva, and several cousins in the Bay Area. Mike grew up in Hayward, California, and was recognized at an early age as having extraordinary artistic talents, working in pastels, silk screening and notably pen and ink mediums, and playing guitar. He graduated from Sunset high School in Hayward and went to the San Francisco Art Institute at age 17. He was a cancer survivor at age 19, and he possessed an extensive recorded music collection spanning the full spectrum of musical styles. He had an appraiser’s eye and a love of objects rare and old. A bottle digger, he unearthed old and rare apothecary bottles, his prized find being a Bitters bottle from the 19th century. In addition to playing guitar, he worked and attended live venues (especially at Winterland and the Filmore) of the major musical acts of the 1970s working for Bill Graham Presents. A certified welder, he went on to work at Stanford on the Linear accelerator Project in the 1980’s and would employ his skills on personal art projects. Naturally charismatic, throughout his life Mike had many friends and followers and, even so, he treasured his independence and time alone. As a seventh generation Californian, and in true 49er spirit, for the last several years, Mike created a life near Yosemite where, with his faithful dog and best friend “Rolo”, he cleared and shaped by hand a homestead that he cherished and would never leave. With Rolo by his side, Michael Alan Robbins died on his birthday November 12, 2013 at his retreat in the mountains. He was 57 years old. Services will be held at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland California on Saturday November 23rd 2013. AT 6PM. All who wish to attend will be welcome.
