Micaela Victoria Lerma's Obituary
Siempre presente!
(Always present)
On September 23, 2022, Micaela Victoria Lerma passed away due to long and chronic health challenges. She was born on March 10th, 1983, in Oakland, CA. She was 39 years old.
Mica is survived by her parents, Onaida and Jorge Lerma, of Oakland, California, her brother Santiago and sister-in-law Cecilia, and beloved nephew, Joaquin, of San Francisco.
Mica was born and raised in Oakland. Her spirit runs through the city, and she embraced all that the East Bay offered. She lived and breathed the Oakland A’s, its diversity and the full spectrum of cultural offering and heritages that make a home in Oakland. She appreciated tasting, and making ethnic food, supporting social justice, and being in nature with friends, family, and community.
She was as happy at Berkeley’s Tuolumne Camp, or in a backyard Bar B Q, but she also found joy and peace in the mountains and rivers and long walks. She may have surpassed her mother as a chef and hostess. Her beauty was striking: her smile lit up every space she entered. However, all who knew her know that her real beauty lay in her heart. Her generosity, loyalty and love for her family and friends were beyond compare. She was woven into the fabric of our lives. She organized amazing events for community organizations and for fun; she brought humor and style to events both large and small, and always showed up for people in need. We all felt safe and cared for with her around. Her home became a refuge of art and self-expression, showing a witty and compassionate sensibility. We are not here to say goodbye, but Bon voyage! her destiny now lies in the universe and through time. She will never leave our hearts, memories, and our soul. Her remains will have a permanent and public memorial, thanks to the generosity and abundance of love and support for her and the family.
She was a strong woman with a tender heart. Her presence will be missed, but we know she exists and lives in a gentle breeze, a lofty cloud, and the fragrance of a flower. She no longer just belongs to us, but to the countless people who have adopted her as our own daughter, Tia, Sister, and life companion
