Mary Ann Poggetto's Obituary
Mary Ann’s passions were family and food. Mary Ann was a dedicated mother of five daughters: Karen, Andrea, Victoria, Elisa, and Dianna. Married in 1951 to William Dal Poggetto they shared 55 years together before Bill’s passing in 2005.
A first generation American, she grew up in Mountain View where her family owned working fruit ranches. Mary Ann was an exceptional home cook with an unerring palate and a strong repertoire of signature dishes that still resonate and are replicated throughout the family. She was also a master baker and was well known for her very sophisticated Christmas cookies which became a form of currency among family and friends. One always knew if they were in or out of Mary Ann’s good graces depending on the size of their personal allotment of cookies.
Mary Ann lived in Oakland for 56 years where she was very active in the community. She was involved in her daughters’ schools, volunteering and serving on PTA Boards. She served on the Board of Directors for the Marcus Foster Educational Institute, Lincoln Child Center, and the National Educational Film Festival.
Every summer, Mary Ann packed up the station wagon and headed to South Lake Tahoe with her daughters. She was well known for hosting dinners and supplying beach lunches for the seasonal staff of Tahoe Keys.
Mary Ann and Bill enjoyed wintering in Scottsdale, Arizona, their interest there included learning about Native American culture and art and the natural desert environment.
Avid Oakland A’s fan they had season tickets for over 20 years attending regular season and Spring training games.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bill Poggetto (2005).
She is survived by her sister Alice Lopina, and brother Ivan Pavlina, five daughters, eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
