Mary G. McKee's Obituary
On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Mary G. McKee, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 93.
Mary was born on July 14, 1932, in Oakland, California, to George and Asimo Georgantes. She attended public school as well as Greek school and began working at her brother’s soda shop at the age of nine to help support her family. Mary later attended Patten Academy in Oakland, graduating in 1950.
Following high school, Mary began working for Kaiser Medical. After several years of dedicated service, she was promoted to Assistant Director of the Welfare Fund Administration Office, becoming one of the first women to hold a management position-an accomplishment of which she was very proud.
In 1953, Mary met her future husband, Bob, on a blind date, and they became engaged just two weeks later. After Bob completed his service in the Korean War, the couple married in 1955 at the Greek Assembly of God Church in Oakland, California. They welcomed their first child, Charles, in 1958, followed by their daughter, Charlotte, in 1962. In 1964, Mary retired from Kaiser to devote herself to raising her children and serving the church.
Mary and Bob were active members of Melrose Baptist Church in Oakland, where Mary served as a deaconess and led neighborhood Bible studies. As the family moved to Lafayette and later to Alamo, Mary and Bob remained deeply involved in church life, serving at Fair Oaks Baptist Church, Hillside Covenant Church, and Evangelical Free Church of Walnut Creek (now North Creek). They also helped establish Evangelical Free Church’s daughter church, Creekside, in Alamo, before eventually making CPC in Danville their home church.
In 1988, Mary began serving as a volunteer lay minister in CPC’s hospital ministry. Recognizing her God-given gifts, the church commissioned her as Minister of Hospital Visitation, a role she faithfully fulfilled until her late seventies. Mary and Bob also assisted CPC’s daughter church, SRPC, during its formative years before returning to worship at CPC.
Mary touched countless lives through her wisdom, kindness, deep faith, and gift of hospitality and cooking. Many came to accept the Lord as their Savior through her faithful witness.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George and Asimo Georgantes; her siblings and their spouses, Helen and Lester Nickles, Jim and Elsie Georgantes, Ted and Sophie Georgantes, Sue Georgantes, and Nick Georgantes; and her nephews, Paul Georgantes and Mark Knetzger.
Mary is survived by her children and their spouses, Charles and Andrea McKee, Charlotte and Kelly Kolander; her seven grandchildren, Megan, Hannah, Robert McKee and Michelle, Jennifer, Molly, and Thomas Kolander; and many nieces and nephews.
