Dear Vickie and Kim I am so sorry I was away and missed the announcement of your Mother's passing.She was a dear and special friend. We traveled together as roommates to Russiawith a women leader's delegation…Traveling together was easy….she was always funny, upbeat and thoughtful. When she and Lionel parted ways…she stayed in my guest room for several daysreading ALL my Barbara Pym books…then she was ready to take on the press andwith a big smile she returned to the public arena to answer questions. Dear Mary's Family: Mother, Vicki, Kim and grands.It was truly a blessing to count Mary amongst my dearest friends and political colleague. Mary was an astute, intelligent, courageous, dynamic leader who serve her community tirelessly and with the greatest of integrity.Mary was a "Life Time" member of BWOPA and we will always be grateful for contributions to our organization. I remember the theme song from Mary's mayoral campaign. She was an Oakland institution.Mary lived an awesome life.She was Blessed and so were we by her service.

I met Mary when she was the face of Social Services at Children's Hospital in 1976. She was a a warm gow of light and a solid rock of sanity in an often chaotic workplace.
