Mary Marie (Kenning) Bert
Mary was born on Nov. 29,1921 in Fairbury, Nebraska to parents Emiel and Josie Kenning.
She passed away on Nov. 21, 2015, in Oakland, almost 94 in age.
She was the oldest child, followed by two sisters and a brother.
She left home on a farm, at a young age, for opportunity to work in shipyards, Portland, Oregon.
While there she learned bookkeeping/accounting. In the late 1940’s, she moved to Oakland, where
she met her husband Ralph, an Architect for UC Berkeley.
Her spare time was spent with Eastern Star and, later on, St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Berkeley, where
she served as President of Women’s Association.
Mary was an accomplished seamstress and loved to cook.
Her husband, Ralph, and step-son, Conrad Bert, proceeded her in death.
Mary is survived by: daughter, Karen – age 59, of Henrico, Va, grandson, (Alex)ander of Fairfax, Va,
Dr. Carl Smith, long-time neighbor, friend, sister Ruth Nowacyzk, of Hebron, Ne, sister Helen Enyeart,
of Minnesota, sister-in-law, Ramona Kenning, of Hebron, Ne, sister-in-law, Emily, in Fremont,
cousins in Southeast Nebraska, very close friends of family- Steve Caldwell and Paul Caldwell, of Bay
Area, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews.
Memorial pending. Mary was cremated and rests at Chapel of Chimes, Oakland, California.
