Mary Frances Lysmer's Obituary
Our loving mother Mary Lysmer has sadly died at the age of 95 on March 7, 2014. Born in Fall City, Nebraska, Mary is survived by her three children, Stephen Smith, Timothy Smith and Sue Ann Shurtliff (Smith) from her marriage to Keith Smith and stepchildren Karen Hoyt and Roger Flint, from her second marriage to Lester Flint, and Susane Lysmer, Annette Lysmer, Marianne Fogle, from John Lysmer
Mary worked as a secretary in the personnel dept. for the Alameda Unified School District for 20 years.
Mary, husband Keith and children, were proud members of the Oakland First Baptist Church. Mary sang in the church choir, sang in numerous church musicals/operas and was a member of the Comrade Class. Mary played the piano, belonged to square and folk dance groups, competed in bowling leagues, enjoyed gardening, was a marvelous cook, sewed, knitted and quilted.
In 1990, Mary and her second husband Lester Flint moved into Piedmont Gardens. She was involved in the resident council, advisory board, and numerous other committees and was once in charge of the gardening committee. Unfortunately Mr. Flint passed away in 1996.
Mary remarried John Lysmer in 1998 and he was suddenly taken from us in 1999. Mary moved back to Piedmont Gardens and eventually into the Memory Care (The Grove) facility in 2011, where she was living prior to her death. Mary was a resident of Piedmont Gardens for almost 22 ½ years.
A memorial service will be held on a future date.
