Mary Pearl Coleman's Obituary
Mary Pearl Jackson Coleman was born in Leesville, LA July 5, 1925. She was one of six children born to the late Leonidas and Mabel Inez McCarter Jackson.
She attended school in Louisiana for a few years and her family moved to Berkeley, CA early in her life to seek a more secure and less hostile environment. She graduated from Berkeley High School and attended San Francisco City College.
Mary was employed at the University of California at Berkeley, the University of California at San Francisco, the Oakland Unified School District, and Lee’s Auto Laundry owned by her parents.
Mary united with Beth Eden Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend J.p. Hubbard where she was an active member in Sunday school and the Junior Choirs. Also, she was active in volunteer service with the U.S.O. in the support of young men adjusting in serving their country in World War II, as well as a life Member of the National Council of Negro Women.
In recent months, Mary began to study the Bible with Jehovah’s
Witnesses and associate with the Fruitvale Congregation. She enjoyed attending meetings at the Kingdom Hall and made many new friends.
Mary is preceded in death by her brother, Leonidas Jackson, Jr., and sister, Lucy Lee Jackson King. She is survived by two brothers, William Emanuel Jackson, Sr. (now deceased) and Victor Russell Jackson; one sister, Arnetta Lee Jackson Bartlow; one aunt, Clara Jackson, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends.
