Marjorie Griffith's Obituary
Following a lengthy illness, Marjorie Carol Griffith, (nee) , (Thompson), “Carol”, joined her husband, Donald Griffith, and her parents Edward B. and Ethelyn R. Thompson in heaven, on August 16, 2018. Carol was born in Oakland, California on November 26, 1929, and grew up in San Leandro. She attended San Leandro’s public schools, and graduated from San Leandro High School in 1947. Carol’s education in pre and post-nursing at both the College of Marin and at Samuel Merritt Nursing School was fulfilled in 1951. She began her career as a Registered Nurse, but retired shortly thereafter upon taking up a new fulfilling career: marriage and motherhood. Carol met her future husband, Don on a blind date, and on October 18, 1952 exchanged vows. Their marriage lasted until Don’s passing, 58 years later.Carol is survived by her six daughters, Laurel Griffith (Gregory Moore); Donna Griffith-Guinn; Sharon Barley (Mark); Julie Griffith; Sylvia Whiffen (Tom); and Susan Gomes (Ron); brother, Edward Roger Thompson (Susana England); nephews, Nathan Thompson (Eva Lewandowski) and Paul Thompson, nine grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Carol is also survived by her best friend forever, Mary Martin Barnes, a buddy from her San Leandro days. The Griffith Family wishes to thank the staff at San Leandro’s Carlton Plaza Plaza’s Memory Care for their excellent attention to Carol’s special needs throughout her stay there, and to Vitas Hospice for their compassion and care. A “Celebration of Life ” on October 20, 2018, at 11 a.m. will be held for Carol at the Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland.
