Mario Angelo Magnani
Resident of Oakland
Aug. 17, 1922 – Dec. 10, 2014
Mario passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side and in the thoughts and prayers of those who could not be present.
Son of the late Stefano Magnani of Lucca, Italy and Rose Lencioni Magnani of Healdsburg, CA; grandson of the late Attilo and Zaira Magnani and Angelo and Adele Lencioni, one of the first wine makers in Alexander Valley. Survived by his loving wife for 65 years, Velma Goria Magnani; father of Mark and Lisa Magnani; Grandpa of Alessandra and Cristina Magnani and Carina and Aerielle Brackett; and cousin of Evelyn Biasotti, Yolanda Barbier, and many more here and in Italy. He will always be remembered for his welcoming smile.
Graduated as an “All-City” football player of University High School. Served our country as a WW2 Corporal in the 14th Battalion Armored Division, 94th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron stationed in Augsburg, Germany, 1942-1945. Co-owner with his father of the M & M Market on Broadway in Oakland for 30 years and later worked at Genova Delicatessen. He enjoyed duck hunting and playing golf as a member at Contra Costa Country Club and recently at Sequoia Country Club in Oakland.
Celebration of his life will take place at Sequoia Country Club, 4550 Heafey Rd. Oakland, CA on Sunday, February 22, 2015, 1-4pm. The family suggests donations to your favorite charity.
