Marilynn Patricia Meyers' Obituary
Marilynn Patricia Meyers passed away peacefully in Berkeley, on June 21. She was eighty three.
Mom was born in Port Jefferson, Long Island, New York, to parents, Peter and Frances McGuire. The ninth of eleven children, she is survived by Brother Al, and Sisters: Ginny, Sr. Cora, Dolly and Bernadette. Her siblings supported her tirelessly, and cheered through heart surgery, recovery, and all the days that followed….
Mom had many careers, interests, and joys during her life…
While still a teenager, she studied and became a nurse in Flushing, New York. She worked with children, and also burn victims, at a time when advances in treatment were beginning to be made…
Nursing led to a job as a Stewardess (Stewardess in those days – not “Flight Attendant”), with Pan Am, where she met her handsome pilot, Roy Meyers, her husband of fifty-eight years….
They had daughter Jackie, and lots of wonderful doggies!
Marilynn was a longtime antique dealer and enthusiast, and spent many years shopping and selling at antique shows and sales, always on the hunt for the next great find! What she found in the antique world, were many great friends!
Throughout her life, her Catholic faith was most important. It was her comfort and joy. She loved praying with her family and her dear friends from church.
Mom charged through life! She loved traveling, and she and Pop saw the world. In later years, she enjoyed going out to restaurants, hanging in Pismo Beach, sitting on her porch with a smoke, reading vintage postcards, talking on the phone, and was always drinking coffee!
She touched many lives, and is also survived by – those who are very dear to her; son in law, Keith Tower, Ryan Tower, The Tower family, her many nieces and nephews, her cousin Mary Lee, nursing school and childhood friends, the wonderful people in the Berkeley neighborhood, and the amazing and loving doctors, nurses, care givers, who gave so much……
Mom was humble, kind, caring, goofy, crazy, and sweet…. Life will not be the same without her.
