Manuel M. Silva's Obituary
Manuel M. Silva, age 93 of Richmond California passed away at home Sunday, March 13, 2011, with his loving wife and family at his side. He was born to Marcial and Maria Silva on September 10, 1917, in Calexico California. They later relocated their family to Gonzales California where Manuel and his siblings were raised.Manuel lived in Richmond California for 40 years, during that time; in 1978 he married Josefina in beautiful Lake Tahoe and enjoyed a long career as a diesel mechanic for Safeway Trucking. He retired at the age of 71. He enjoyed many hobbies such as refurbishing antique automobiles, gardening, designing custom tools and traveling to Mexico often, just to name a few. He had a wealth of knowledge ranging from politics to the secrets of living a happy life; he always had a unique perspective on many topics.Manuel was a loving and caring man; a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. He believed that a "handshake" and "your word" was a valued characteristic in a person.Manuel is preceded in death by his parents, Marcial and Maria Silva, brothers Joe and Charlie Silva, daughter Nellie Vasquez and son Tony Silva.Manuel is survived by his wife of 33 years Josefina, daughters; Esther, MaryEllen, Eleanor, Lona, Frances, and Jessica, sons; Richard, Bobby and Edgar and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces/nephews and God-children.Location of services: Chapel of the Chimes 4499 Piedmont Ave. Oakland, California 94611 (510) 654-0123Viewing Date/Time: Thursday, March 24, 2011 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.Funeral Services: Friday, March 25, 2011 1:00 P.M.
